I read with interest the recent comments Caroline Fayard made about Republicans and quite frankly was not as appalled as others were, but I do think she should apologize.

In case you hadn’t heard, according to The Daily News of Bogalusa, Fayard said: “I hate Republicans. I hate Republicans. They are cruel and destructive. They eat their young. They don’t think. They don’t allow people to think. They are bullies.”

Politics is a rough and tumble sport, so when a fledgling (and now flailing) politician spouts off such vitriol, we needn’t be so thin-skinned.  If she hates Republicans, well that’s just silly, but I suspect what she means is that she hates the state Republican Party and the myriad Republican pollsters and political consultants who are looking for as many ways as possible to  discredit her as a future political candidate.

Otherwise, she hates me and we’ve never met.  She hates my parents too!  If your parents are Republicans, well then she hates them.  And she hates everyone else in the entire country who have registered to vote as Republicans – approximately 50 million people…

That’s a lot of hate coming from the woman who is touted as the future of the Louisiana Democratic Party.  Say it isn’t so.
